A Guide To The Wineries Around Motels In Ballarat

Many who book motels in Ballarat are interested in touring some of the local wineries. Low temperatures and yields coupled with the prevalence of small hands on wineries have given the region a boutique reputation. Why not make a weekend of it? Head up to Ballarat on a Friday and spend the weekend touring some of the region’s best-known wineries.

  • Captains Creek Organic Wines
  • Located in nearby Blampied, which is about half an hours drive away, this vineyard is the perfect daytrip for those staying at motels in Ballarat. As their name suggests, they specialise in wine and cider made from organically grown fruit. There’s also an onsite café and cellar door that is open for lunch and is available for functions.

  • Mount Beckworth Wines
  • Located in nearby Clunes, which is about half an hours drive away, this vineyard was established back in 1984. It is home to many premium grape varieties, including: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their cellar door can be found in Clunes’ main street and is called ‘Enoteca @ Clunes’.

  • Mount Buninyong Winery
  • Located in nearby Scotsburn, which is about twenty minutes drive, this vineyard is also home to a relaxed restaurant. It is perfect for families staying at motels in Ballarat, as the kids can play a boardgame whilst mum and dad browse the extensive range of wines on offer. The restaurant serves delicious wood fired pizza.

  • Quoin Hill Vineyard
  • Located in nearby Waubra, which is about twenty minutes drive, this vineyard is a family owned and run business that was only established in 1997. It is home to five varieties of wine, including: Tempranillo, Pinot Gris, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The renovated chaff mill/stables is the perfect place to enjoy a spot of lunch.

  • Wightwick Wines
  • Located in nearby Invermay, which is about fifteen minutes drive, this vineyard was only established in 1997 is known for its two varieties of wine – Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The cellar door is advertised as being open by chance by appointment, and the winery is also known to host music days (with tastings) throughout the year.

If you enjoy a glass or two of delicious local wine (and, let’s face it, who doesn’t?), we definitely recommend heading out to Ballarat. There are a number of gorgeous wineries in the surrounding area, giving you ample opportunity to sample as many varieties as are available. Just ensure that you book motels in Ballarat early to avoid missing out!
