Museum Democracy

Understanding the history of our great country is important, which is why many people choose Eureka accommodation – this region is literally the birthplace of our nation as we know it. The Ballarat Budget Motel is less than 10 minutes drive from this amazing museum, so be sure to take a look.

Things To See

The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (more commonly known as M.A.D.E) is located on the exact site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade. The museum explores the Eureka story and commemorates the pivotal role that the events at Eureka had in shaping Australia as we know it today. There are a number of historic artefacts on show, including the Flag of the Southern Cross.

Saltbush Kitchen

If you find yourself becoming a little peckish during your visit, we recommend stopping into the onsite café, Saltbush Kitchen. This family-friendly space offers a delicious menu incorporating fresh local produce and also serves fine espresso coffee. Chef Brigid Corcoran likes to introduce native Australian flavours.

Prices & Opening Times

The museum is open 7 days a week (excluding Christmas and Boxing Days) from 10am to 5pm. Tours of the exhibition space are run daily at 11am. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for children (between 6 and 15). Family tickets are also available for $35 (a minimum of 1 adult and 2 children, a maximum of 5 people).
